As we move into a new year, I’m far less interested in dramatic resolutions and far more focused on what actually supports real life. So here are 5 health habits I’m deliberately leaving behind in 2025 and 5 things I’m taking with me, into a slower, stronger, more grounded way of living.

You might find a few you’re ready to borrow too!

✨ 5 Health Habits I’m Leaving Behind in 2025

1. Eating in a rush (and calling it normal)
Standing at the kitchen worktop, half-present and already thinking about the next task? I’m done with that.

Food deserves attention. I’ve noticed that when I sit down, even for just 5–10 minutes, I finish feeling revived, grounded and genuinely ready to carry on with my day. Eating properly isn’t indulgent, it’s supportive.

2. Overcomplicating “healthy”
If it needs six obscure ingredients and a spare hour, it’s not supporting real life!

This year, I’m choosing simple, nourishing, and repeatable meals, with variety coming from the ingredients (usually vegetables), not the complexity. Health shouldn’t feel like a project; it should fit around your life.

3. The idea that discipline equals restriction
Despite the motivation to feel lighter and more energised after the festive period, restriction just isn’t fun…or effective!

I’ve learned that small, positive changes work far better than harsh rules. The occasional treat, “cheat” meal or lazy day won’t undo progress if it’s a one-off. In fact, it often makes discipline easier the following day. That’s been my experience time and time again.

4. Pushing through tiredness
Rest isn’t laziness. It’s maintenance.

Slower days are nurturing and they don’t require guilt. I’m finally treating rest as part of health, not something to earn after exhaustion.

5. Saving joy for later
Special plates. Proper lunches. New outfits. Unlit candles. I’m not waiting for a “better time” anymore…life is happening now!

✨ 5 Things I’m Taking With Me into 2026

1. Eating in a way I could happily do forever
No end dates. No resets every Monday. Just “The May Way”…balanced, flexible and kind to my soul! Health that feels sustainable always wins.

2. Strength-based movement that feels supportive
Pilates, walking, yoga, weights… movement that builds you up rather than wears you out.

Exercise and strength are non-negotiable for me, especially as the years creep on. You’ll see more of this woven into my daily life this year, not as punishment, but as support.

3. Slower mornings (even when life is busy)
I value my waking hours: reading, listening to the radio, making calls, easing into the day.

That quiet space before things get busy helps regulate my nervous system and sets the tone for everything that follows. It’s a small habit with a big impact…and there’s no guilt!

4. Shared experiences over solo striving
I love connecting with like-minded people over deeper conversations, shared ideas and meaningful connection.

I’ve noticed how fulfilling these gatherings are, which is exactly why I’m so excited about the Pilates retreat. It’s a combination of movement, nourishment, connection and space to properly reset together. These are the experiences that quietly change how we live long after they’re over.

5. A little more playfulness
This one might surprise you — but yes…laughter. creativity and embracing new activities. Doing things just because they feel good. Life doesn’t have to be serious all the time and certainly isn’t meant to be joyless.

Here’s to calm consistency, proper meals. strong bodies and deeper connections. And choosing what actually supports us, not just what looks good on paper.
