For this easy Guacamole recipe, you’ll need:
You’ll need:
- 1 small red onion, very finely chopped/minced
- 3 ripe avocados
- Juice of 1 lime (or lemon)
- 1 large ripe tomato, diced
- 1 small clove garlic, finely chopped/crushed (optional)
- 1 handful coriander, leaves and stems, finely chopped
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- Salt to taste
- ½ green chilli (optional), finely chopped
Here’s how:
Cut the avocados in half, lengthwise and remove the pit. Scoop out the flesh with a spoon and add to a bowl.
Add lime juice then mash it with a fork, until it’s creamy but still a little chunky.
Add in the onions, garlic tomato, cumin, coriander, cumin and chilli along with a sprinkle of salt. Mix and taste, adjusting the seasoning as necessary. Lime juice and salt are key here so don’t be afraid to add more to bring out the flavours.

Serving Suggestions:
Try this easy guacamole recipe to use it as a base to some baked white fish topped with pickled red cabbage and fresh radishes
If you’re not serving immediately, cover with cling film, ensuring the film touches the guacamole so there is no air in between. This will help it not to change colour, although it will still need a quick mix up to bring out the vibrant green colour when you’re ready to serve.
If you prefer smooth guacamole, you can blend all the ingredients in a food processor.
TIP: The best guacamole needs ripe avocados; it’s always a lottery knowing when to actually use an avocado! Test them by squeezing them to ensure they are not hard. They should be stored at room temperature.
Nutritional Nugget:
The avocado is a fruit that is incredibly nutritious. Providing more potassium than a banana (!), it is mainly a carbohydrate food whilst also a rich source of healthy fats. READ MORE on the health benefits of the avocado.
